Police identified a 43-year-old motorcyclist killed in a Friday night collision at the intersection of Hinalani and Kamanu streets as Elvis Sheppard of Kailua-Kona.
According to a police statement, Sheppard was broadsided by a car driven by a 61-year-old Kailua-Kona man who failed to yield right of way to the motorcycle as he turned left from Kamanu onto Hinalani.
The car’s driver was uninjured.
In another fatal collision Friday night, police say a car driven by 48-year-old Robbie Weeks of Hilo failed to negotiate a right curve on Highway 11 between the 98- and 99-mile markers and ran down an embankment, killing Weeks.
Police think speed and inattention were factors in both crashes and autopsies were ordered in both cases.
